History of the
Faculty of Law UIR
The Faculty of Law of Universitas Islam Riau is one of the oldest faculties at Universitas Islam Riau and the oldest law faculty in Riau Province.
Its establishment grew out of the dynamics of local society and reflected the aspirations of the people of Riau Province, the majority of whom are Muslim.
The first lectures were held on 4 September 1962. A year later, on 18 April 1963, the law department of the Faculty of Religious Studies was officially separated to become the Faculty of Law of Universitas Islam Riau.
The faculty was inaugurated by Prof. Anton Timur Jailani, M.A. of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, marked by the opening lecture delivered by the first Dean, Mr. Nazar Said.

Milestones of the
Faculty of Law
Preparing the Founding of UIR
Preparations to establish the Faculty of Law began alongside the plan by YLPI Riau to found Universitas Islam Riau.
Universitas Islam Riau Is Founded
UIR was officially founded after the capital of Riau Province moved to Pekanbaru, sponsored by Islamic scholars and community leaders of Riau.
First Lectures
4 September 1962 — law lectures were held for the first time as part of UIR's Faculty of Religious Studies.
Officially Becoming the Faculty of Law
18 April 1963 — the Faculty of Law UIR became an independent faculty, inaugurated by Prof. Anton Timur Jailani, M.A. of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
State Examinations & Sarjana Muda Degrees
The Faculty of Law successfully held State Examinations and produced state-recognized Sarjana Muda Lengkap (junior law degree) graduates.
Full Law Degree Program Opens
Lectures at the Doktoral level (Sarjana Lengkap, full law degree) officially began in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, Universitas Andalas, Padang.
Restored as FH UIR
After briefly being renamed STH&PM (1976), the Faculty of Law UIR returned to its original identity and has continued to grow ever since.
