Pekanbaru – The Faculty of Law of Universitas Islam Riau (FH UIR) will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Lembaga Adat Melayu Riau (LAMR), the Riau Malay Customary Institution of Riau Province. The signing is scheduled for Thursday, 30 April 2026, from 13.30 WIB until finished, in Room 104 of the Faculty of Law UIR.
The agenda will be followed by FH UIR’s Monthly Seminar, this time titled “Law: Laughing Together” (Hukum: Ketawa Bersama). The title alone suggests a lighter, friendlier way of talking about law, far from the rigid image the field often carries.
Featuring the Chairman of LAMR Riau Province
The seminar features Datuk Seri H. Taufik Ikram Jamil, M.I.Kom., Chairman of the Daily Executive Board (Dewan Pimpinan Harian) of LAMR Riau Province. The event will also be attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Law UIR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosyidi Hamzah, S.H., M.H.
Bringing the leaders of both institutions into one forum signals that this cooperation is meant to go beyond paper, opening a space for discussion that the academic community can take part in.
Building Synergy Between Academia and Customary Institutions
In Riau, Malay custom is part of everyday community life, including how people understand rules and resolve problems. That is why a close relationship between a law faculty and a customary institution carries its own significance. Through this MoA, FH UIR and LAMR Riau Province hope to strengthen their synergy in building a more inclusive and culturally grounded perspective on law.
