Pekanbaru – Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) held a Public Lecture themed “Building a Green Civilization: The Role of the State, Academics, and Law Enforcement”. The hall was filled with students, lecturers, and invited guests who came to hear environmental issues examined from three angles at once: state policy, academic thought, and the work of law enforcement.
Three Perspectives on One Stage
The lecture featured three speakers: Rocky Gerung representing academia, Jumhur Hidayat as Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, and Herry Heryawan as Riau Regional Police Chief. The discussion was moderated by Dr. H. Zulfikri Toguan, S.H., M.H., Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Law UIR.
The line-up reflected the theme itself. Protecting the environment cannot rest on regulation alone. It calls for policies that take a clear side, critical ideas that grow in academic spaces, and law enforcement that stays consistent on the ground. In this sense, the lecture became a strategic forum for building shared awareness of why collaboration between the state, academics, and law enforcement matters in creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly civilization.
Enthusiasm of the Younger Generation
Seats were filled all the way to the back rows. Students, including international students, followed each session closely, with many taking notes and recording the speakers’ presentations. This enthusiasm reflects the younger generation’s commitment to championing environmental issues, particularly through the legal perspective that forms the core of their studies at the Faculty of Law.
The event closed with the presentation of souvenirs to the speakers and a group photo with all participants.
