Roots
The Faculty of Law of Universitas Islam Riau is one of the oldest faculties at Universitas Islam Riau, as well as the oldest law faculty in Riau Province. Its establishment embodied the aspirations of the people of Riau, the majority of whom are Muslim and who held a noble ideal of building a just legal order.
Preparations for its establishment began in 1957, gaining momentum after the capital of Riau Province was moved from Tanjung Pinang to Pekanbaru in 1958. In the same year, Universitas Islam Riau was officially founded on the initiative of the YLPI Riau board together with Islamic scholars and prominent community leaders.
The first lectures of the Department of Law—then still under the Faculty of Religion of UIR—were held on 4 September 1962. A year later, on 18 April 1963, the Department of Law was officially separated to become an independent Faculty of Law.
The Faculty of Law UIR was inaugurated by Prof. Anton Timur Jailani, M.A. of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, marked by the opening lecture delivered by the first Dean, Mr. H. Nazar Said. Since then, the Faculty of Law UIR has continued to grow and has now achieved Excellent accreditation from BAN-PT as well as ISO 9001:2015.

Preparations for the Founding of UIR
Preparations for the founding of Universitas Islam Riau were initiated by YLPI Riau together with Islamic scholars and community leaders of Riau.
Universitas Islam Riau Founded
UIR was officially founded after the capital of Riau Province moved to Pekanbaru, sponsored by YLPI together with Islamic scholars and community leaders.
First Lectures of the Department of Law
4 September 1962 — Law lectures were first held as part of the Faculty of Religion of UIR. First Dean: Mr. H. Nazar Said.
FH UIR Officially Established as an Independent Faculty
18 April 1963 — Inaugurated by Prof. Anton Timur Jailani, M.A. of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The Department of Law officially became a separate Faculty of Law.
State Examinations & Bachelor's (Sarjana Muda) Degree
FH UIR began holding State Examinations and produced its first full Sarjana Muda graduates officially recognized by the State.
Full Bachelor's Program Opened
The Doctoral / Full Sarjana level program was officially opened in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, Universitas Andalas, Padang.
Renamed STH&PM
Temporarily adopted the identity of Sekolah Tinggi Hukum & Pengetahuan Masyarakat (College of Law & Social Sciences, STH&PM) as part of an institutional adjustment.
Restored as the Faculty of Law UIR
FH UIR returned to its official identity as a Faculty of Law and continued to grow into a leading legal education institution in Riau.
BAN-PT "UNGGUL" (Excellent) Accreditation
Achieved Excellent accreditation from BAN-PT (Decree No. 4266/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.KP/S/V/2024), the highest recognition of legal education quality in Indonesia.
