Pekanbaru – The Faculty of Law of Universitas Islam Riau (FH UIR) has officially entered into cooperation with the Riau Malay Customary Institution (Lembaga Adat Melayu Riau, LAMR) of Riau Province. The partnership was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Thursday, 30 April 2026, in Room 104 of the Faculty of Law UIR.
The signing was witnessed by faculty leaders, lecturers, invited guests, and FH UIR students who filled the room. It was followed by the FH UIR Monthly Seminar titled “Law: Laughing Together” (Hukum: Ketawa Bersama).
What the FH UIR and LAMR Cooperation Means
The cooperation between FH UIR and LAMR is a strategic step to strengthen the synergy between academia and customary institutions, particularly in developing law grounded in the values of Malay local wisdom. In Riau, adat is not merely a legacy of the past. It still shapes how communities understand rules and settle everyday problems, which makes a close relationship between a law faculty and a customary institution both natural and important.
Through this MoA, the FH UIR and LAMR cooperation is expected to encourage research and community service, and to strengthen the role of customary law within the national legal system.
Monthly Seminar “Law: Laughing Together”
This edition of the Monthly Seminar featured Datuk Seri H. Taufik Ikram Jamil, M.I.Kom., Chairman of the Daily Executive Board of LAMR Riau Province, as the speaker. True to its title, the seminar invited participants to look at law from a more relaxed angle, closer to everyday life. The atmosphere of the forum appeared warm and informal.
The programme also included the presentation of a souvenir and the book Problematika Hukum Indonesia: Teori dan Praktik to the speaker, before closing with a group photo.
