Faculty of Law UIR Holds Public Lecture on “Periodization of National Legal Development”

Pekanbaru, June 2, 2025 — The Faculty of Law at Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) once again organized an academic event in the form of a public lecture, raising the theme “Periodization of National Legal Development.” The event took place on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 1:30 PM WIB in Room 1.04 of the Faculty of Law.

The keynote speaker for the lecture was Prof. Toto Tohir Suriaatmadja, S.H., M.H., a Professor at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Bandung (UNISBA). In his presentation, Prof. Toto Tohir provided a comprehensive overview of the phases of national legal development in Indonesia, from the colonial era to the reform and globalization eras. He emphasized the importance of understanding the history of Indonesian law as a foundation for shaping a fair and socially just legal system.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Law at UIR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. M. Musa, S.H., M.H., who expressed his appreciation for Prof. Toto Tohir’s presence and highlighted the significance of public lectures in enriching students’ academic knowledge.

“This public lecture is part of our ongoing commitment to providing academic platforms that enhance understanding of national law, especially for the younger generation who will one day play a role in upholding justice in Indonesia,” said Dr. Musa.

The event was attended by lecturers, staff, and hundreds of students from the Faculty of Law. The enthusiasm of the participants was evident during the lively and engaging discussion session. Through this event, students are expected to gain both historical and critical perspectives in understanding the continuously evolving national legal system, in line with the social and political dynamics of the country.
