NATIONAL LAW DEBATE COMPETITION GEMA LEX-A 2025 FH UIR: Preliminary Round Highlights Justice in the Digital Era

Pekanbaru, May 14, 2025 — The Faculty of Law at Universitas Islam Riau (FH UIR) successfully held the Preliminary Round of the National Law Debate Competition GEMA LEX-A 2025, carrying the theme “Legal Construction and Justice in the Digital Era.” This prestigious competition served as a platform for law students from across Indonesia to exchange ideas and respond to the evolving legal landscape amid digital transformation.

The preliminary round, conducted on May 14, 2025, adopted a chamber system, where teams were grouped to engage in systematic and competitive debates.

A total of 10 teams from various prominent universities in Indonesia participated in the round:

  2. BOX JUSTITIA (University of Riau)

  3. MALAKA TEAM (UIN Suska)

  4. NAWASENA (University of Muria Kudus)

  5. LEX SPECIALIS (University of Brawijaya)

  6. SELOKO (University of Merangin)

  7. RAJA ALI HAJI (University of Raja Ali Haji)

  8. PADERI (University of Batanghari)

  9. VERITAS AEQUITAS (University of Kuningan)

  10. MOERTOJO (University of Sebelas Maret Surakarta)

In this competition, participants were expected not only to master legal substance but also to construct strong arguments relevant to today’s digital challenges, such as data privacy, AI in legal systems, and algorithmic justice.

The judging panel consisted of distinguished legal academics and practitioners:

  • Dr. Saut Maruli Tua Malik, S.H.I., M.H

The judges praised the quality of the debates and encouraged students to continue developing critical thinking and sensitivity to modern legal issues.

This competition demonstrates FH UIR’s strong commitment to nurturing future legal professionals capable of addressing contemporary challenges. The final round will take place soon, featuring the top-performing teams from the preliminary stage.
